It's that time of year again! Gather your friends, family, neighbors and coworkers, and join the fun! What is a Birdathon? Birdathon is a fun and educational way to help protect birds and preserve their habitat in southern Arizona. Anyone can participate: expert birders, casual birdwatchers and beginners too. We can all come together, get out birding and raise funding for Tucson Audubon Society programs. Birdathon is like a walk-a-thon, except instead of raising money per mile walked we raise money per bird species seen. It's a competitive and educational event for any level of birdwatcher, as well as for their family and friends who cheer them on! You can join our guided trips or create your own team and route. The guided trips are led by birding experts and are a great way to make new friends and connect with other bird lovers! How does it work? Birdathoners ask their family and friends to pledge a donation to the Tucson Audubon Society on a fixed or “per-species” basis. Then, they go out on their trip and find as many species as possible in a period of up to 24 consecutive hours. Birdathoners compete in several categories for exciting prizes, including the Grand Prize, an Ecuador birding trip for 2 from Tropical Birding! We're counting on you! Let's make 2010 our best year ever! Last year we raised just a little over $25,000 during Birdathon. This year with your help and increased participation we hope to raise even more for important Tucson Audubon programs. Every Birder who raises at least $50 earns a cool Birdathon 2010 T-Shirt!
